1)What author do you own the most books by?
I was gonna say Terry Pratchett, but I think it’s actually Robin Hobb, since I have all nine books in the Elderling Saga.
2) What book do you own the most copies of?
Two copies of Villains by Necessity by Eve Forward; one paperback that my cousin Glenn got me, and one signed hardcover from Eve herself.
3) Did it bother you that both those questions ended with prepositions?
Well now it does.
4) What fictional character are you secretly in love with?
I sometimes hesitate to tell people that I want to introduce Artemis Fowl to the joys of bondage and buttsex, because he's, you know, twelve (he's actually closer to fifteen now, not counting his time traveling, but Eternity Code!Artemis is my fave).
5) What book have you read the most times in your life (excluding picture books read to children; i.e., Goodnight Moon does not count)?
I think it's a toss-up between Villains by Necessity and Golden Fool, one because I love it to death, and the other because the "I love you but not in that way" angst is so potent.
6) What was your favorite book when you were ten years old?
I seem to recall really liking The Phantom Tollbooth, though I rarely read a book that I didn't enjoy.
7) What is the worst book you've read in the past year?
I hated Running with Scissors, but not because it was badly written; it was just really bizarre, especially since I though it'd be more like David Sedaris' stuff.
8) What is the best book you've read in the past year?
Oh geez. Uh, either His Majesty's Dragon by... somebody Naomi Novik, or Mister Monday by Garth Nix.
9) If you could force everyone you tagged to read one book, what would it be?
Probably Assassin's Apprentice (Robin Hobb) or World War Z (Max Brooks).
10) Who deserves to win the next Nobel Prize for Literature?
Terry Pratchett. Or me. Or uh, I dunno, some deserving person.
11) What book would you most like to see made into a movie?
Penny Candy Maybe a juiced-up version of Artemis Fowl (animated for preference, but nothing really is anymore these days).
12) What book would you least like to see made into a movie?
Ms. Hobb, please PLEASE keep the movie people away from Fitz Farseer. He's been through enough, I really don't want to see one of the Jonas Brothers and Dakota Fanning dancing around CG dragons.
13) Describe your weirdest dream involving a writer, book, or literary character.
There was that one time I dreamt that we (Butler, Holly and I) were testing Artemis Fowl's memory after an accident by quizzing him on the lyrics of "Don'cha" by the Pussycat Dolls.
14) What is the most lowbrow book you've read as an adult?
Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon, on the recommendation of a fellow smutophile. I returned it to the bookstore the next day, feeling strangely violated.
15) What is the most difficult book you've ever read?
I made it all the way through American Gods (Neil Gaiman) before throwing the book at the wall. Usually I don't give books that much of my precious life-time.
16) What is the most obscure Shakespeare play you've seen?
The Binding of Young William. It's one of his lesser-known works.
17) Do you prefer the French or the Russians?
French are nicer, Russians are cooler.
18) Roth or Updike?
Uh... Like David Lee Roth?
19) David Sedaris or Dave Eggers?
Sedaris, for definite.
20) Shakespeare, Milton, or Chaucer?
Pratchett.
21) Austen or Eliot?
Pratchett?
22) What is the biggest or most embarrassing gap in your reading?
Probably the last few questions.
23) What is your favorite novel?
It changes pretty much by the hour, but Villains by Necessity has always been near the top of the list.
24) Play?
|>
25) Poem?
Shel Silverstein writes some good stuff, but he's awfully creepy looking for a childrens' book author.
26) Essay?
Something learny!
27) Short story?
Look, a bird!
28) Work of nonfiction?
Maybe Me Talk Pretty One Day (David Sedaris) or Memoirs of a Geisha (Arthur Golden), if that even counts.
29) Who is your favorite writer?
I like me, but Robin Hobb or Terry Pratchett are good second choices.
30) Who is the most overrated writer alive today?
STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER STEPHENIE MEYER
...Chris Paolini
31) What is your desert island book?
The Worst Case Scenario Survival Handbook, and maybe a giant glued-together tome of the Elderling Saga, both to read and to build a giant paper airplane out of.
32) And... what are you reading right now? Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (J. K. Rowling), since I needed something to read that I hadn't already read to death, and I haven't read it in awhile.
I TAG EVERYONE EVAR.
