Yo Momma

My mom's always been my mom-- tough, hardworking, passionate, and occasionally batty, but always loving. I could recognize her smile anywhere, at any time.

One thing that never stays the same about her, though, is her 'do.

Therefore, I present to you: An Illustrated History of My Mom's Hair.

(my mom's a natural brunette, and her hair is usually straight with only a little bit of a wave, but she was doing this Farrah Faucett thing in the 70's and most of the 80's.)

(My earliest memories of my mom were her kicking ass and taking names at Martial Arts tournaments, while rocking that mane of hair at the same time. [she has a black belt in Shorin-Ryu style karate, but it's been a long time since she's fought, so please don't run up to her and punch her. Her daughter will probably hit you with a tire iron.] That's my older brother in the picture.)

(The Maxim Haircolor for Men look, back when it was still only for women. Circa '87, I think.)

(The very short, severe cut of an early 90's businesswoman.)

(When we came back into the country from living overseas [about 1994-95] she started dyeing it red. I think she looks better with red hair-- most people never even suspect she's really a brunette.)

(The color was really pretty on this one, with sun-kissed highlights, but I think it made her head look like a mushroom. This is another wedding, in '98.)

(She's finally let it grow long again, which I think suits her. She's retired now-- you'd never guess her age, she looks fantastic-- and spends her time running around with horses.)

This is seriously how I read things. I was like, "... wait what?"
